Tirol is well on its way to becoming a climate-friendly holiday destination

Tourism plays a central role when it comes to climate protection and the preservation of an ecologically intact environment. That’s why the Tirol Tourist Board - in cooperation with Austrian Rail and the "CLAR" project - is also setting the tone in terms of sustainability and environmental protection.

Just a quick glance at the map tells you that Tirol is one of the best-connected rail destinations, thanks to its geographical location in the centre of Europe and can therefore be reached in environmentally friendly fashion.

All destinations in North Tirol are located near international railway stations, so guests from all over Europe can travel to Tirol quickly, comfortably and sustainably.

"With the Nightjet to the Mountains“, and "With the Nightjet to the snow" offers are constantly being expanded. You can easily reach numerous Tyrolean destinations overnight.

Find out how long train journeys take from various European cities to your desired destination in Tirol on our "Travel Time Map". With the new GRETA (Green Travel Alternatives) web widget, you can directly see what CO2 savings can be made by travelling by public transport.

Tirol holidaymakers can also get around sustainably when here, thanks to excellent regional transport services. All information about station shuttles, local train and bus connections as well as mobility services included in guest cards can be found here.

Four Tirolean regions are "Clean Alpine Regions”

In addition to environmentally friendly mobility services, numerous Tirolean regions have launched other initiatives with a focus on sustainability. Four Tirolean regions, the so-called ”Clean Alpine Regions“ (Kaunergrat, Kufsteinerland, Pitztal and St. Johann), can already boast numerous successes on the path to climate neutrality. They were therefore selected as "CLAR pilot regions", serving as test regions for further development and use of innovative environmental technologies in Tirol.

Austrian Ecolabel for tourism destinations

In  2023, the region Seefeld - Tirols Hochplateau was one of the first two tourism destinations in Austria to be awarded the internationally recognised "Austrian Ecolabel for Sustainable Tourism Destinations".
