Clean Alpine Region Kaunergrat

Kaunertal is Tirol’s smallest and westernmost tributary valley. It is part of the „CLAR-Region Kaunergrat“, which includes the Nature Park and glacier region of Kaunertal and surrounding communities.

The region is considered a pioneer in terms of sustainable regional and tourism development and can boast of many years of successful work in this regard. Kaunertal has already been on the receiving end of some prestigious awards: in December 2021, the UN World Tourism Organization (UNWTO) awarded the valley the sustainability accolade of "Best Tourism Villages by UNWTO" as part of a pilot initiative, the first Austrian region to do so.

Tourism & Mobility" Projects

• Nature Park Influencing Establishments: Hotel Weisseespitze, Hotel Edelweiß and Haus Karlspitze are considered ”Nature Park Influencing Establishments “. They have placed a direct focus on qualification measures in the field of sustainability, as well as the management concept of "Corporate Social Responsibility (CSR)".

• Bus service from Landeck to the Kaunertal runs 10 times a day (Kaunertal Bus Timetable)

• Partner of the ÖBB (Austrian Rail) special offer, ”With the Nightjet to the Mountains “: overnight train services from Vienna, Graz, Hamburg, Düsseldorf and Amsterdam to the Kaunergrat region.

• From June until the end of September there is a daily free e-hikers’ shuttle from Feichten in Kaunertal to the Kaunergrat Nature Park House and Kaunertal Glacier.

• „Kaunergrat Climate Construction Site“ – landscape conservation on alpine pastures: young people from the German Alpine Assoc. Frankfurt Section will carry out activities on the extensive alpine grazing pastures in the Upper Kaunertal Valley in the summer of 2022, accompanied by local mountain guides.

Hiking Under Starry Night Skies: the Upper Kaunertal Valley is one of the darkest places in Austria and consequently offers an exceptionally expansive starry sky. These night tours with professionally trained star guides serve to raise awareness on the containment and reduction of light pollution.

• Guest Handbook: a guideline on how not only locals, but also guests can contribute to environmental protection with climate-friendly behaviour.
