Smuggler's Circuit to Samnaun

The Silvretta Arena Ischgl/Samnaun cable cars whisk you comfortably from Ischgl across the border into Switzerland and the duty-free paradise of Samnaun, even in summer.

In earlier times, the people of Ischgl undertook the arduous journey over the mountains to bring special goods such as coffee, sugar and tobacco back across the border. Nowadays, boutiques and sports shops as well as restaurants and huts await you in Samnaun, where you can also enjoy a culinary adventure.

The 16.2-kilometre tour starts in Ischgl in the Paznaun Valley. The Silvretta cable car takes you to Idalp at around 2,300 metres above sea level, from where the trail leads through alpine meadows and rocky terrain to Viderjoch. After another 100 metres in altitude, you reach Greitspitze Peak. Then follow the hiking trail along the border between Austria and Switzerland to Salaaser Kopf at 2,744 metres. Below Palinkopf, the trail leads to Zeblasjoch, where the descent to Samnaun-Ravaisch begins.

Return with the Samnaun cable car and the Alp Trider Sattelbahn lift, before taking the Flimsattelbahn and Flimjochbahn cable cars back to Idalp.

An alternative and shorter route to Samnaun leads from Idalp via the mountain ridge trail to Alp-Trida-Sattel and finally back down to the valley with the Samnaun cable car.
